Michelle Vecchione Live at ICU Bar, NYC

With guitar in hand and the tortured strength in her voice, Michelle has always found a way to impress and move me.

I’ve always been a fan of the very lovely and talented songstress Michelle Vecchione. With guitar in hand and the tortured strength in her voice, she has always found a way to impress and move me. I lost touch with Michelle for a while as can happen in this crazy world. One day I noticed that she was on a bill with some friends of mine for a gig at the ICU Bar (765 Washington St, NYC). So I decided to check out her site to see what she had been up to.

OK so now I’m going to be a web geek. WOW! What an amazing site! This is how Flash should be used. No horrible special effects the likes that most folks use just because they can. This is a sharp, classy site with a subtle beauty that is a fine match to Michelle’s sound.

It took me a little while to find the ICU Bar. I always get mixed up in the meat packing district. That whole West 12th vs. Little West 12th mumbo-jumbo. When I finally found the place I realized that this was once ‘Finally Fred’s’ and ‘Fred’s Speakeasy’ (both names I prefer over ICU, by the way). I saw Michelle and mentioned how much I loved her new website. It turns this guy in the UK offered to design the site for her. They had never even met yet she was blown away by how he captured the essence of her personality.

For this set Michelle was alone with her guitar delivering her own passionate take on Americana and the Blues. The sweet, sexy rasp in her voice exposes her heart with an honesty that touches all who listen. From the back of the stage stared an image of Elvis. He naturally looked both proud and amazed. It was a very fitting bit of imagery.

Besides Michelle, this night at the ICU Bar saw special acoustic performances from local faves End of October, Kukurudu, High Speed Chase and eugene.
