I just saw Ted Koppel on Nightline berating a congressman from Louisiana. Koppel was squarely placing the blame for the lack of aid to the hurricane victims on the shoulders of the state. Claiming that the reason why FEMA and the Feds had not sent help right away is because the governor of Louisiana had not asked for it thru the proper channels. IS HE IN-FUCKING-SANE!!! No matter what procedures were or were not followed, it’s been FOUR DAYS since the onset of this disaster. That is unacceptable. PERIOD!
I can tell it took all the strength in this congressman to not explode thru the satellite feed and smack old Ted’s hair right off. What a jackass Koppel is to even suggest such an idea. Thousands of people are living in their own filth while aid is waiting to go in. The organization of this is a joke. The Feds claim that they can’t go in because it’s too dangerous.
I also just saw video of Harry Connick, Jr. embracing these so-called ‘dangerous’ people. They’re not dangerous, they’re desperate!! Yes it is true that a small group of thugs and criminals are exploiting the chaos, but is that really an excuse not to help? Why is it that we’ll send our troops in to a place with snipers, suicide bombers, grenade launchers and other assorted dangers? Are the lives of people in Iraq valued higher than our own citizens? Is it really just for the oil? Is it because the damage to the oil rigs and pipelines in the Gulf may be bad but repairable that we’re not as concerned here? Is it because we feel that we can fix it by simply doubling the price of gas?
Are we willing to just let the people of New Orleans, Biloxi, etc. die? Our government needs to step up their game here. This is ridiculous.
