Remarkably Chipper

The morning after my return to booze after thirty one days

That’s how I described myself today. Last night was my first night out drinking in over a month. I of course chose the Russian Samovar. When I walked in the bar staff all were like, “What … did you take a Samovar break? Haven’t seen you in a while.”

The morning after my return to booze after thirty one days

That’s how I described myself today. Last night was my first night out drinking in over a month. I of course chose the Russian Samovar. When I walked in the bar staff all were like, “What … did you take a Samovar break? Haven’t seen you in a while.” I told them of my Thirty Day Challenge and they congratulated me. I arrived alone but assured the bartender that more were coming and she smiled. As my friends trickled in (as did the vodka) I was feeling pretty good. This was a fitting place to fall off my wagon.

There to help were Steven Morgan (aka Ireland Roomie and Fixx ticket getter) and a bevy of co-workers: Deb, Will, Mary, Mike, Karen, Meghann (and a friend whose name escapes me), Jen (and John her boyfriend) Lisa and Theresa. Anya, a lovely girl who is helping me find some talented designers. Her co-worker Milan. He is about to go on a very interesting and fairly open-ended trip to Europe. I’m jealous. It was so much fun and no, not just because of the drinking.

Speaking of the drinking … OK … I admit it … I had quite a bit. Then Will, Mary and I ended up topping off the night at McCann’s in the Port Authority. How fantastically convenient it is to have a bar in the bus terminal. After a couple of bourbons and way too much Green Day on the juke box, I was home before midnight.

Hangover? Nope. That’s why I described myself as being remarkably chipper today. Of course the temptation is to go out again tonight and I may just do that. Will I drink as much if I do go out? Probably not. After all, I have to maintain some sense of discipline now or the whole challenge was for naught.
