Tuesday at the Goldhawk
ArtKore.org Open Mic at the Goldhawk
After several carafes of vodka at the Russian Samovar, it was time to get to Hoboken for some music.

Harry Potter & The Williams Center
Where's the popcorn? Heck … where's the movie?!
On Saturday, Lisa and I wanted to go see the new Harry Potter movie. Since it had been selling out everywhere, we thought it would be smart to go to a late showing. We've done this in the past for the first movie and it was great to not be bogged down by a swarm of annoying kids…

David Childs CD Release Party
Live @ Maxwell's, Hoboken
I had seen David Childs a few times at the Goldhawk open mic but could never remember his name.

Mixed Drinks, Mixed Feelings
I began questioning my drinking habits once again
Since I've been back off the wagon, a strange new fact has come to light. I really don't enjoy mixed drinks now. This may be a temporary effect of the sobriety. As a matter of reflex and habit, Eric ordered me what was always my usual choice; a Jack & Coke. It just did not taste right to me. Oh there was nothing really wrong with it other than not appealing to my taste buds. This was a truly odd feeling.

Good Advice from SPAM mail…Be a Cop
Fun and Frolic of Law Enforcement?
I received an email the other day that stated:
"If you are sick of your job, be a cop it's fun" … Yes they are now trying to sell being a cop as something that is fun.

Last Night at Overlook, NYC
OK, first of all … why the name 'Overlook'?
It's on 44th Street between 2nd and 3rd. It doesn't actually overlook anything. Although on their website there is an image that seems to be looking down on the bar. I know they have an upstairs and a roof deck, but the vantage point of this image still confuses me.

Remarkably Chipper
The morning after my return to booze after thirty one days
That's how I described myself today. Last night was my first night out drinking in over a month. I of course chose the Russian Samovar. When I walked in the bar staff all were like, "What … did you take a Samovar break? Haven't seen you in a while."

Election Day 2005
Did you get out and vote today?
Did you vote? I did. Earlier this morning I went to the polls, walked right up, gave my name and pushed a few buttons. I like voting here in Hoboken. There is never a line. This actually strikes me as kinda odd since it is such a densely populated little city. You'd think there would be a line but … nope. Do people just not vote around here? Or is it because I always vote at the crack of morning?

Thirty Day Sobriety Challenge - Bonus Day
Watch as my life spirals into control
Yeah, I figured 'Bonus Day' adds a positive spin on the fact that I just can't count. I was tempted again today to start the celebrations. After all … I made it … I'm free and clear … it's time. My friend Joy called to see if we can toss a few back tonight but no, I can't. It's not even that I can't. I really don't want to.

Thirty Day Sobriety Challenge - Day 30
Watch as my life spirals into control
Yep … Day Thirty! It's a bit anticlimactic though considering that there is actually a thirty first day now. Still it seemed fitting that I take the day off from work to relax and reflect. It was a remarkably difficult month. More than I thought it would be.

Thirty Day Sobriety Challenge - Day 29
Watch as my life spirals into control
Lisa's landlord makes his own wine which is apparently very good. Tonight he left a bottle for her and I thought, "Man it will be nice to have one glass of wine … in a few more days." Not to get drunk, but just to have a relaxing sip or two of good old-fashioned tradition.

Walking in Hoboken
Taking an early morning stroll to spark some life into my day
This is something I have not done in a while. Walking along the river from my house down to the PATH station, NYC is completely obscured by fog. Only the sun burning thru and the hum of early morning traffic let spill the truth that there is life across the river. Joggers and other assorted fitness buffs accompany me along this trail.
