I'll Just Have One Drink, Maybe Two
The famous last words of a doomed man
My night started out innocently enough. I had been working on one new project and two older projects all day and by 11:00 or so I felt I needed to get out for a drink. It was my buddy Sags's birthday celebration over at DC's (505 Eighth St, Hoboken) so I figured, "I'll just have one drink, maybe two."

Steve Night at No Idea Bar
Where love (and booze) calls you by name
"Where everyone knows your name," isn't just a corny cliché from that 'must-see' sitcom of days gone by. At No Idea Bar (30 W 20th St, NYC), it's an actual fact. Every night is a different 'name night'. If your name matches the one on the calendar (or reasonably close), you drink for free from 5:00 to 11:00.

A new modern, cozy Irish Pub opens in Hoboken
Off the beaten path, placed under the viaduct on the corner of 14th and Grand in Hoboken you'll find a modern neighborhood Irish Pub. Opening its doors on Saturday July 15, 2006, owner Joe Jones (yeah, and it's not a fake name) said they built here purposely to distance themselves from the madcap hustle and bustle of Washington Street. And a smart move if you ask me.

The Adventures of a Traveling Lighter
At W.E. Fest 2006, I came across a small blue lighter with an apparent wanderlust. This is a mini-pictorial documentary of its travels.

Just Another Manic Thursday
The social benefits of self-employment
The summer heat used to piss me off. I live on the top floor of an old tar-roof brownstone. So my apartment is, for all intents and purposes, the attic just with really high ceilings. The heat has nowhere to go but here and as you come up the last flight of stairs, the extra ten to fifteen degrees really hits you, especially when it's over 90 outside. And don't get me started on my electric bills thanks to the added need for air conditioning…

Burgers, Drinks & Leonard Cohen
A day of food and drink is highlighted by a fascinating documentary
I got a text message from my friend Helen asking if I wanted to meet for some breakfast. We went to Johnny Rockets where we had burgers since we got there just after 11:00 and then it was off to see 'I'm Your Man' at The Film Forum….

Corzine Announces State Restart
Scare tactics worked as the State re-opens services
I had gotten some minor, constructive flack from folks, including my friend singer/songwriter Dave Calamoneri, for being so harsh solely on the governor during this short but scary crisis. He helped to clear up one vital point. It takes the entire group of governing bodies (Assembly, Senate, etc.) to so majorly fuck up a state's budget and force us into such a stoppage.

Corzine's Plan Affects NJ Gambling Industry
Why be concerned about being able to play the slots or buy a lottery ticket?
Some folks—especially Corzine supporters—have said that it is superficial to be concerned about Atlantic City and the Lottery being victims of the state's shutdown. As much fun as it is for grandma to go to Atlantic City for the day, spin doctors are hiding the bigger picture in a muck of misguided opinions.

Corzine Shuts Down Government Services
How will keeping people out of state parks help the budget?
With the July 5th deadline for shutting NJ down looming, I have questions that need answering. I'm the first to admit to having little understanding about the business of politics. This latest move from NJ Governor Jon Corzine to force through his tax increases and spending decreases just has me plain baffled.
