Nicolle and Cindy have been matched for six months, and have been enjoying the time they spend together. Cindy’s mother works long hours as a housekeeper, so Cindy loves having a Big Sister to explore the city with. They have gone to the Natural History Museum, played in Central Park, gone to a Mets game, and Cindy has taken Nicolle on a tour of her neighborhood.

I was brought up Catholic so I’m well aware of the ritual of smearing ashes on one’s forehead to mark the beginning of Lent. The tradition of placing an ash cross on one’s forehead is meant to show a person’s identification with Jesus and mourning over his death.

Mary-Kate and Ashley have spent many weekends together painting pottery, eating new foods, picnicking and seeing movies. This match also attended our fifth anniversary of 9/11 event, "Never Forget," to offer support for Ashley's best friend whose father died in 9/11.

About BBBS of NYC and how I got involved
Late last October I found myself leaning against a bar, sipping a cocktail and waiting for a knife thrower to begin his demonstration. It was at that unlikely moment that I met Lauren Fishman of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of New York City. They were one of the sponsors of the night and we began talking about the program she was involved with called 9/11 Together We Stand.
