Pictures of edibleRed on stage and backstage
This is an exciting time for edibleRed. Their new CD ‘Welcome to My Bad Behavior’ was released earlier this year on Select Records. And tonight they get to play this ultra-cool venue in the meatpacking district.

R.I.P Hilly Kristal
CBGB founder dies at 75 after battling lung cancer
Hilly Kristal didn’t set out to alter the very course of rock history when he opened his bar at 315 Bowery in NYC back in December 1973. In fact, his intentions were to create a home in the city for Country, Bluegrass and Blues—hence the name CBGB. Thanks to young bands in the area looking for a place to play, all that changed.

Stuntditch Live at Arlene's Grocery - Gallery
My photos of Philly-based band Stuntditch @ Arlene's Grovery
For a bunch of guys from Philly playing on a Sunday night, they had a decent crowd here. And when they played I could see why. Their reggae-fied rock mixed with raw funk overtones almost got me dancing … almost …

Sightseeing in Red Hook
My miserable sense of direction results in a photographic side trip
I was on my way to catch a bit of Cleveland Fest. I exited the ‘F’ train at Smith & 9th and, not surprisingly, began walking in the wrong direction. Friends can testify to my absolutely miserable sense of direction.

Loud and Underground
Such volume, such energy, such Jersey coolness crammed into such a small space!
Loud music in NYC is quite literally being forced underground. And while the sound systems in these subterranean sanctuaries from the dying scene above may leave a lot to be desired, they are ultimately a godsend.

Street Meat Treat
Some of the best food served under an umbrella
When you hear me talk about street meat and dirty water dogs, they're not insults. They're terms of endearment given to those frightening looking but often delicious curbside vendors who serve up an array of tasty treats.

Black River Music and Art Fest
A day of sights, sounds and tastes in Chester, NJ
A former farming community turned antiques haven Chester, NJ is home to a fantastic day of art, music and family fun. It's the kind of event that normally fills me with cynicism when attempted in a bigger city. Like one day could somehow bring back the feeling of warmth and home to a cold environment.

Where in the World is Elvis Hitler?
A strange coincidence got me thinking about this…
Last night I was at Maxwell's in Hoboken for my friend Brian Musikoff's art opening. While mingling I ran into Pete Martinez, drummer of The Coffin Daggers. He was telling me about a great rockabilly show they had done somewhere in Ohio and how pleasantly surprised he was by the turnout. This lead to a brief discussion about the long, underground history of rockabilly.

Deny Everything
An art installation at Maxwell's in Hoboken featuring Plexiglas Paintings by Brian Musikoff
You may know Brian Musikoff as the bassist of Stuyvesant or as that guy who gets you good and drunk at Louise & Jerry’s in Hoboken. He is also a very talented artist who has an installation at Maxwell’s…
