Val Emmich on 30 Rock
Hey, that guy looks familiar…
I think a lot of folks had that same reaction. As the promos for NBC’s 30 Rock played this past week, there was that feeling of familiarity. When I checked my email this morning, my friend Kim Ware of Eskimo Kiss Records filled me in.

Covering tables with sheets of white paper is usually reserved for cheap fish joints, The Elysian Cafe is actually a decent place. Tonight my friend Kristine and I came to enjoy the cool samba-flavored tunes of Las Vandelays.

The Elysian Cafe in Hoboken has a most interesting, new-age-like feel to it's decor. White sculpted walls with blue neon lights shining upwards contrasted by the orange of the glass and metal chandeliers.

Oh that Fabulous Flicker
No, I’m not referring to the online photo sharing thingy…
…if I was, I’d have spelled it properly. Instead, I’m referring to that delayed flutter of light just after I switch on certain lights in my apartment thanks to my new compact fluorescent bulbs.

'Elizabeth' by Hey Tiger
Featured Song
From their 2005 release 'September', the song 'Elizabeth' is a wonderful showcase of the band's depth and scope. Poetic, rhythmic, dreamlike and passionate all in one. During a recent showcase at The Goldhawk in Hoboken, folks were treated to an impromptu reworking of the song into an acoustic piece.

Rockin' for a cause at Maxwell's
A very decent crowd for a cold Sunday night at Maxwell's. Especially with it being last day of a long holiday weekend. Considering the reason for the show—as well as the performers—I cannot say I'm all that surprised.
