I first heard Waking Lights when they performed this past summer at Maxwell’s (1039 Washington St, Hoboken). I was impressed by their hippie-meets-bluegrass, folksy vibe with the added classical treat of cello and violin.

This track ‘Ice Cream & Vicodin’ from their EP ‘Songs for Jo’ is a perfect mix of all their elements. It’s subtly contagious melody and infectious shuffle break down into soft, ethereal spaciness. Theirs is a very unique yet easily accessible sound.
