Artist Spotlight: The Joyful Street Art of Kate Micucci

The actress/comedian/artist has taken to cleverly painting found objects on the streets of NYC.

I first became aware of Kate Micucci as part of the comedic musical duo Garfunkel and Oates with Riki Lindhome. Over the years, she has built quite an impressive portfolio, appearing in ‘The Big Bang Theory’, ‘When In Rome’, ‘Rick and Morty’, and much more.

Most recently, Micucci has been creating quirky street art on found objects throughout NYC. Refrigerators, furniture, fencing, televisions, mannequin parts — nothing is safe from her unique eye for design. She’s even been commissioned to paint the outside of Indian restaurant Jazba on the Lower East Side, NYC.

Filled with cartoon aliens, robots, animals, and messages of love and kindness, this is the sort of graffiti that gives graffiti a good name. In a time of such divide and anguish in the world today, we need more of this positivity.

So, what is the source of this positivity? Micucci was diagnosed with lung cancer in late 2023, despite never having smoked. She underwent surgery and has thankfully been cancer-free ever since. You’d think that would be it, but I think it’s the other way around. I think her ever-present positivity helped her successfully recover.

There’s a lot to be said about the powers of love, joy, and humor. When you watch her doing the work, you see the delight in her as she brings life to these inanimate objects. You see the delight in passersby as well. It’s infectious. And this is why I’ve been such a fan of her work.

Check out her work on Instagram and if you’re interested in buying a piece, go to Spring Break Art Show.

Cheers!
