Reason for coming to BBBS of NYC: Ashley's best friend's father died in the tragic events of 9/11. Exactly one month after the attacks on the World Trade Center, Ashley's father was found dead. It is unclear as to whether he died due to foul play or suicide.

Activities they've enjoyed together: Mary-Kate and Ashley have spent many weekends together painting pottery, eating new foods, picnicking and seeing movies. This match also attended our fifth anniversary of 9/11 event, "Never Forget," to offer support for Ashley's best friend whose father died in 9/11. On September 16, 2006, the match enjoyed our Race for the Kids!
How the program has helped them: Mary-Kate's first e-mail to her social worker ended with, "While I had a great time being with Ashley, the whole time really became worthwhile when she thanked and hugged me at the end of the day." Ashley has had many struggles in the past few months and it is the support that she gets from her Big Sister, Mary-Kate that keeps her chin up.
