This week, the touching story of Yehuda

It’s the second to last week and I can’t wait to shave. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a part of something this amazing … but this damned thing ITCHES!!!

But of course I know it’s all worth it as I read stories of children our donations to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center are helping. Take for example the tale of young Yehuda who was diagnosed with a rare cancer at the age of six.

Yehuda’s parents initially thought that the pain in his legs was caused by a fall at the playground. As time went on, his pain worsened and he developed a fever. His doctor ordered a series tests. His original diagnosis of transient synovitis of the hip—in which the hip joint’s inner lining becomes inflamed—was incorrect.

Finally, the doctor informed them of the horrific news. CT scans revealed a tumor that had penetrated Yehuda’s spinal cord. It turned out to be a rare cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma that involves the bone as well as the soft tissue.

The parents knew they wanted to go to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and were glad they did. While the treatment which included chemotherapy and a half bodycast following surgery was rough on him, Yehuda was up and walking six months after the initial diagnosis.

This is just one of many amazing stories of survival. I’m glad that my few weeks of discomfort and your generosity help to make things like this happen. You can read Yehuda’s full story and meet his parents and doctors at mskcc.org.

If you’ve already donated, thank you. If not, Sponsor my ‘stache today!
