‘Ho Ho Fucking Ho!’ by Kevin Bloody Wilson

I don’t normally put any disclaimers on my posts, but with a song like ‘Ho Ho Fucking Ho’ by Kevin Bloody Wilson, what choice do I have, really?

Originally featured on ‘Kev’s Kristmas Album’ in 1996, it’s been floating around the web for years, often wrongfully credited to Monty Python. I’ve had an eighteen-second snippet on my PC for as long as I can remember.

Back in 2007, I found myself struggling to find the perfect song to post for the holidays. I wanted something that was both Christmassy and irreverent. Yes, the choices are many (‘Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer’, ‘It’s Hard to Be a Jew at Christmas’, Walkin’ ‘Round in Women’s Underwear’, ‘Fuck Christmas’, etc), but none did the trick.

Then, I remembered that eighteen-second little snippet and did a little web detective work. I discovered it’s true creator to be Australia’s Kevin Bloody Wilson. It’s become a holiday tradition for me. I’m considering taking it door to door with a choir of carolers.

‘Ho Ho Fucking Ho’ is a story of a disgruntled Rudolph and pissed-off elves who’ve had just about enough of working for Santa, who takes all the credit every year while they do all the work. And Mrs. Claus is not any happier, calling Santa a pedophile. Why else would he go sneaking into little kid’s rooms late at night?

What appealed to me about this song was not that it belittles the holiday season. Rather it speaks to anyone who has ever hated their job or boss. We all know people who’ve taken credit for work they hadn’t done. I think it may be a requirement for career advancement in the publishing industry (just sayin’).

Of course picturing sweet reindeer, cute elves and kindly old ladies cursing like sailors in a drunken brawl has it’s appeal as well.
