A Return to Harmony View

I was meeting my friend Tami for dinner and drinks.

I arrived a little before Tami was ready to leave work. I didn’t want to hang out too long in front of the building where she works considering it was where I used to work. There are still a few people I’d rather not run in to.

I was meeting my friend Tami for dinner and drinks.

I arrived a little before Tami was ready to leave work. I didn’t want to hang out too long in front of the building where she works considering it was where I used to work. There are still a few people I’d rather not run in to. So, I figured it would be easiest to meet at Harmony View (210 W 50th St, NYC). After all, it is just across the street.

Since I no longer work in the area, I don’t get to hang out at this, one of my favorite bars very often anymore. I’m happy that I had the chance to pop in and say hi to owner Emmett O’Lunney and everyone at Harmony View. They’ve been hard at work making changes to the joint. This is what I love about this place.

Being securely located in a highly trafficked corner of Times Square, Emmett could easily sit on his laurels. Instead he is constantly looking to make the place better. New decor, new furniture. One of the biggest issues actually has to do with the enormity of the space. It’s actually not easy to make a space like this flow.

I was happy when Emmett asked my opinion about some of the changes he had in mind about the general layout. I liked most of his ideas. I think there was just one that I disagreed slightly with. By the way I really dig the ever growing collection of classic neon like the antique Pontiac Indian and a sign from and old Texas Honkytonk.

Back at our table, Tami and I feasted on chicken fingers, calamari and many pints of Guinness. This is a place where two people among a bulging crowd can feel an odd sense of comfortable privacy that allows conversations to flow as easily as the spirits. The night started with no plans and we never wound up leaving Harmony View which was perfectly fine with me.

Oh and if your wondering about those changes Emmett and I were discussing for Harmony View … well, my lips are sealed. I mean, what kind of a friend would I be if I just spilled the beans. You need to go check it out for yourself. As usual, be sure to tell Emmett that Stephen Bailey sent ya.
