Soft Target Ticket

An interesting idea, but what about illegal parking? I’d stop criticizing the Hoboken Police Dept’s odd habits, but they keep coming up with new ones.

I’ve had my criticisms of the Hoboken Police Department’s odd habits in the past. Things like horses, Segways, etc. But I have to hand it to them for always coming up with ways to surprise me. For example, this morning I found what I thought was a ticket on my car’s windshield.

Instead, it was this new initiative by the police to help people prevent what they call ‘Soft Target Crimes’. Things like cars getting broken into, but not stolen. There was a full list of checkpoints to follow, including ‘Do Not Leave Money or Spare Change in View’ … which was apparently my offense.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the effort to help me help myself. However, I would prefer it if the Hoboken Police Department would actually spend their energy enforcing existing laws. Such as resident parking restrictions.

There are still numerous vehicles in town with out-of-state plates that somehow have Hoboken resident stickers–not to mention the ones without stickers–parked in resident only spaces. What exactly is the point of having resident only parking if anyone and their grandma can park there?

Thanks for the concern about my loose change, but can you do something about that SUV with Iowa plates parked in my spot?
