Oh that Fabulous Flicker

No, I’m not referring to the online photo sharing thingy…

…if I was, I’d have spelled it properly. Instead, I’m referring to that delayed flutter of light just after I switch on certain lights in my apartment thanks to my new compact fluorescent bulbs.

…if I was, I’d have spelled it properly, incorrectly. Instead, I’m referring to that delayed flutter of light just after I switch on certain lights in my apartment thanks to my new compact fluorescent bulbs. A couple of weeks ago I finally bought three of these little gems. I’ll be getting one more for the bathroom and, if my landlord ever lets me replace the ceiling fixtures, I’ll get more.

Yes it’s my next step in ongoing efforts to be a touch nicer to the environment. OK, in truth my real motivator is a financial one. I’ve found that trying to think in terms of ‘saving the world’ just gives me a headache. It’s too overwhelming and sends me running in a panic back to the comfort of plastic and carbon. But if I whittle it down to a basic, tangible life benefit (like saving money) it becomes easier to handle.
