Catching someone in a laziness induced lie

I was at my local convenience store yesterday because I needed a roll of paper towels. One of the best things about living in Hoboken is the plethora of delis and convenience stores dotting the cityscape. I never really have to worry about running out of anything in my home.

Anyway, I grabbed this roll of towels and brought it to the register. The clerk took several moments searching for what I thought was the UPC code to punch into the register. As it turned out he didn’t know the price. I started to smile and just as I was going to point it out to him he says, “That’ll be $2.49 please.”

At that point my smile burst into sarcastic laughter as I pointed out the obvious. I mean, it was pretty hard to miss:

What bothered me about this transaction was wondering how many times this guy just makes up prices. Although the price on this roll of paper towels turned out to be painfully evident, what about other items that are not. Many items in this and other stores do not have posted prices like milk, soda, bread, etc.

So it’s another reason to be sure to go thru life with your eyes open. Oh and if you work in one of these places, please refrain from lying about the prices. It’s not just uncool, but most customers are in the neighborhood and come in often. Like me. Do you really want to lose business because of your laziness?
