Mustaches vs. Cancer: Finale

Clean shaven and it feels so good

Clean shaven and it feels so good

I’ve been waiting for this day for eight long weeks. Now that it’s here, the relief I feel is more than just finally having my clean upper lip back. It comes from knowing that I played even the smallest part in raising over $49,000 to benefit the Pediatric Department at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

My portion of that came to over $400 as of this evening thanks to the generosity of family and friends. The final tally of all donations will be released by the folks at Mustaches vs. Cancer later this week. I want to thank everyone who participated as either growers or sponsors.

Kids can’t grow mustaches and they shouldn’t have cancer either

The concept was a fairly simple one. Grow a ‘stache and raise some money. The tone throughout may have been lighthearted, but the intention was from from it. Everyone has in some way been touched by cancer. Maybe not all the same form or severity, but the reach of this sinister menace is long and wide.

Humor and fun are the best weapons against pain and evil. The smiling faces of the children we helped along with the scowls of the mustachioed minions fueled our cause. Now, for the first time on my site, the evolution of my ‘stache.

Clean Shaven Again

Yes, I’m keeping the bushy, crazy hair for now. I want to see how close I can get to Albert Einstein’s ‘do before I freak out and shave it all off again. No charity this time, just for the fun of it.

To see the full timeline—complete with my clever captions—and to keep up with other furry-lipped goings on, check out Mustaches vs. Cancer.

Now, if you don’t mind. I need to get some rest. Because in just ten short months … we do this all over again.
