New PATH Not Standee Friendly

So, what will all the drunks hold on to? A smoother, quieter ride than the aging clunkers, but with one major oversight.

I finally got to ride in a new PATH train this morning. They began rolling these out about a month or so ago, but this was the first time I caught one. It’s definitely a smoother, quieter ride than the aging clunkers. The detailed information thru new signage, video, and audio is also a major improvement.

What struck me, however, was the one major oversight.

There are fewer things for standees to grab hold of. There are no hanging straps (or metal equivalent). Crossbars are set too high due to increased ceiling height. There are no poles in the middle of the cars as before. It makes me wonder how drunks will anchor themselves as they stumble home after a long night.

The new blue color scheme is nice, I guess.
