Thirty Day Sobriety Challenge – Day 15

Watch as my life spirals into control

I got in a little while ago from celebrating the official Grand Opening of my good friend Lisa’s music school in Hackensack. After a couple of hours chatting with Lisa and her family at the school, we went to Lua in Hoboken for dinner. We were met there by several of her friends and it was another test in my will to be sober.

Except for a few moments when I first got there standing at the bar waiting for the rest of the party to show, I really did not want any alcohol at all.

Still I almost asked a girl at the bar for a smoke, but restrained myself. The conversation, food and fun were enough. Of course we all could have done without the off-beat Flamenco dancer messing up the fine guitar music. Luckily that only lasted for a little while.

Tonite I actually had the thought that maybe I don’t ever have to drink. What inspired this thought was talking to Lisa’s friend Rasha. She simply does not drink, ever. This has not kept her from having fun. I thought back to that year and a half when I was sober. I never lost a night of fun either.

Maybe it’s simply the thrill of making it to the halfway hump in my challenge that has sparked this over active sense of will. Who knows? Only time will tell. Right now though, I’m feeling pretty good about myself.
