Presenting: Clueless Events

This new group promotes the work of Global Fund for Women. Check out this new site I built that launched early this morning (or late last night).

Since 2009, my good friend Nelson Pla has been hosting a benefit concert on his birthday at Maxwell’s in Hoboken. The purpose? To rock out, have fun, and raise awareness of the work of Global Fund for Women.

After last year’s event—at which I got to play host—Nelson decided he wanted to take this a few steps further. We started discussing the idea of staging events thru the year, leading up to and culminating in his birthday benefit in April. From that, I was inspired to launch a website to help promote those events.

And so was born Clueless Events

The name of this new site stems from the phrase, “Women’s Rights are Human Rights. If you don’t understand this, then you are clueless,” which appears in a series of Public Service Announcement videos that accompany the events. And that phrase stems from the fact that Nelson is a founding member of the band clueLess.

Nelson and I have been friends since … well, let’s just say a very long time. We’ve been thru a lot together. He was there when I got the unfortunate nickname ‘bucket boy’ (I do not want to talk about it). We’ve been in each others bands (old photos are cropping up on Facebook). Plus, we both like women.

So it was natural that we work together on this cause.

The site launched at around 1:30 AM today (I do my best coding at night). Our first new event is scheduled for this coming Friday December 3, 2010, as part of JC Fridays at Art House Productions (1 McWilliams Place, 6th floor Jersey City, NJ).

It’s a photo exhibit by photographer Laura Desantis-Olsson, showcasing her images from the 2009 and 2010 Global Fund for Women benefit concerts held at Maxwell’s in Hoboken. She generously donated her time and talent to document the events.

The exhibit will be rounded out by live music from local performers Allison Tartalia, Lloyd United and Las Vandeleys. There will be multimedia experiences, including the shooting of Public Service Announcements to reinforce the message of Global Fund for Women. All attending are invited to take part in the videos (read more here).

Global Fund for Women, a nonprofit organization founded in 1987, promotes the economic security, health, safety, education and leadership of women and girls worldwide.
