| I've had people fooled for years
into thinking I'm a good photographer. I admit to having a certain
style, but most of that comes by accident. Over time I've learned
how to set the little dial on my little camera to get the effects
I like. And I have developed a meager understanding about what
those settings do. Still I have to take tons of shots just to
get a few that are decent enough to publish.
After seeing how lousy the pictures from my recent trip Miami
came out, I had an epiphany of sorts. It was time for me to
do one of two things. Give up taking pictures or bite the
bullet and buy a real digital SLR camera. I chose the latter.
And so I spent some time researching different brands and
models. With the help of a few photographer friends, I decided
on the Canon Digital Rebel XTi (EOS Digital SLR Camera).
Why that one? Simple. I got a great deal from ShopSunshine.com
in Brooklyn. The basic package of the camera, three lenses,
tripod, soft case, hard case, external flash, 2 gb memory
card, card reader and lens cleaning kit for under $1,100.
Plus my friend Madeline compared buying a Canon to buying
a Camry. Affordable and, since it's so popular, getting service
for it would be cake. Jim Testa of Jersey Beat pointed out
how not having that annoying shutter delay of a cheap camera
will make snapping live band shots a snap.
After a phone call to Michael over at ShopSunshine.com and
a couple of days of waiting, I had my new toy. Now the trick
is to figure out the proper way to recreate my luck-based
picture taking technique. But first, a couple of test shots.

This is Linus. He always found my photos very funny!

But now perhaps he'll take me a bit more serious. |
