Heavy Craft/Soft Landing

A multimedia experience from Art House Productions

The cast, crew and musicians that make up Art House Productions have a certain knack for making the chaotic seem ordered and the ordered seem chaotic. Heavy Craft/Soft Landing—which ran from May 1 thru May 9 in Jersey City, NJ—was no exception. I’m not too proud to admit that much of the symbolism was lost on me, but the production was exquisite and had something for everyone.

Beat poetry, surreal videos, interpretive dance, trippy lights, experimental music and that darned symbolism. Oh sure, I got the whole birth, school, work, death cycle of life bit. Past that, I let my mind wander. And there was enough going on for a wandering mind to be fully entertained and challenged.

More About the Play
Developed by a team of 25 writers, musicians, actors, dancers, and film/video professionals, this was Art House Productions’ most ambitious play to date. Heavy Craft/Soft Landing follows a human life cycle from birth to death, incorporating dance, poetry, and a dream-like videoscape projected onto the stage.

In a first for Art House Productions, Heavy Craft/Soft Landing incorporated an original musical score performed live by an eight piece orchestra using instruments ranging from computers to hand percussion to guitars to bubbles blown in cups of water and (even) more.
