If this was a contest, what did they win?

This is a 21-year-old TV clip from Japan has been making it’s rounds on the web lately.

Now, I don’t speak any Japanese, but from what I can figure from links I’ve found, there was a contest of some sort in which students recreated works of art on a massive scale. They’d gather on a field and use their bodies as the paint.

The part getting the most attention features 3000 students from Saitama Sakae High School gathering to form their version of the Mona Lisa. However, the video is filled with amazing examples of other art including an animated crane.

I wonder what the winners won.

Oh and … 3,000 students from one school united toward a single goal? I say that even if they had failed they should have win.
