A diverse trio of styles celebrating the art of the song

Singer/songwriter Scott E. Moore presents this performance series on the first Thursday of each month at The Goldhawk (936 Park Ave, Hoboken). He actually began this series back in March of 1998 when the bar was called The Liquid Lounge. The venue has gone thru some serious changes over the years, but The Writer’s Hang is still the same quality night of music and storytelling.

It’s your basic round-robin set up where each performer tells a tale and plays a song. If the air is right, each will start to add a little flavor to the others’ songs. Tonight’s air was right and the performers included our host along with Milton and Fionn Ó Lochlainn. Joining Milton were two members of his band; Sami Buccella on bass and Martin Kearton on guitar and mandolin.

A personal side note; After one particularly fiery solo from Fionn, I got chills and felt a lump in my throat. My friend singer/songwriter Rob Nicholas turned to me and said, “That’s it! I’m going home to burn my guitar. I quit!” A better compliment can not be made. Afterwards, the guys ‘geeked’ out a bit on stage as they admired Fionn’s guitar.

Though their styles are quite different, subtle and growing contributions to each other’s sound added a richness to the night. Between the folky songs of Scott E. Moore, the smoky cool blues of Milton and the ethereal magic of Fionn Ó Lochlainn, this session evolved into a fine night of music. Something that is to be expected from The Writer’s Hang.

It’s not easy to get people out to shows in the Hoboken/NYC area. This is just a fact of life. So for someone like Scott E. Moore to not only pack the place each month but do it for nearly a decade is phenomenal. Check out his website for an extensive list of past performers.
