Some people are just plain nuts,
I know. After all, isn't the point of being in the music business
to get as much money as possible, as soon as possible? Not
if you're The Majestic Twelve. These guys have a distinct understanding
of how things ought to be vs. how things are.
Now, don't get me wrong, it's not like they're allergic to
success. But they know as I do that success comes in many forms.
Some that are not so obvious to the naked eye. While other
bands are struggling to sell a few units here and there at
shows, vying for the attention of a major label, The Majestic
Twelve is making headway by doing what many fail at without
the ass kissing and politics.
Even with their unsigned status—a status that scares
the hell outta most bands—they've had a video on MTV
('I
Don't Have a Job' from the album 'Searching for the Elvis
Knob' ©2003) which is a rarety to say the least. I for
one am inspired by the way this band has gotten more notice,
more favors, more popularity than other bands with that machine
of a label working behind them.
The Majestic Twelve's machine is more real, more organic
than anything any record label could muster. It is made up
of the gears of fans, friends and industry types and fueled
by the respect those folks have for them as musicians and as
people. Myself included. And by rejecting the mainstream, corporate
big money torrent they are actually attracting attention.
Anyway, let's talk about the thing you're getting for free.
'Schizophrenology' is wrought with sharp, political satire
and spiced with an anger that is blatant and certain. The musicianship
is as top-notch as the songs are smart. Am I a bit biased?
You bet your ass I am because I love this album. It's a much-needed
searing spit in the all too complacent faces of music,
life and politics.
At the risk of sounding like a late-night infomercial; don't
take my word for it. You can go to the link below and get
a free copy of 'Schizophrenology' for yourself. What's the
catch? Well ... if you like it, tell your friends. Simple
enough? Good.
