FJSRadio.com Night @ Ola

[SOUND]

September 5, 2006

A new night of words, beats and melodies presented by FJSRadio.com

NOTE: Originally this was being held on Tuesday, but as of
9/28/06 FJSRadio.com Night @ Ola is on THURSDAYS

FJSRadio.com is working to bring together an assortment of writers, DJs, musicians and rappers for a night of free creative exchange. The venue they've chosen for this is Ola Tapas Lounge and Restaurant (4215 Park Ave, Union City).

I don't spend much time in Union City, but the area seems to be enjoying a new growth in nightlife. And with the NJ Transit Lightrail connecting it to Hoboken and Jersey City now, I'm sure this trend will continue.

Ola is a place that looks like a funky café with its Salvation Army décor and unusual art. For example there are large Lego sculptures created by Eric Sophie. The drinks were a bit pricier than I would have expected from this town and the beer selection was pretty sparse.

Musically the night was all over the place starting with a couple of DJs creating some mean sounds, vamping off each other. There was a plethora of rappers and poets.. Finally my friends in clueLess played a few songs toward the end of the night. The beauty of this night is the diversity.

I admit there was a lot of stuff going on here that I really wasn't into. Still I'll support FJSRadio.com and its host Tico (aka Tasteless T.) because they're doing more than promoting music and art. They're encouraging open-mindedness. Let the walls fall and just watch and listen. You might not like it all, but chances are you'll like some of it. And that's what life is all about.
