A refreshing change to other massive clubs

One thing that can be said about most every place in the Meatpacking District of NYC is that they are large, cavernous spaces. Another thing is that most of these places are overrun by bridge and tunnel swarms looking for a fun night out. Sadly that usually means high prices, velvet ropes, hovering clouds of cologne and arrogance.

One refreshing escape positioned smack-dab in the middle of it all is R&R (416 W 14th St, NYC). 5000 square feet, three rooms, two bars and a monster sound system yet surprisingly free of pretentious attitude. This space is poised to bring a solid repertoire of live music to the area.

The decor is an eclectic mix of camp and punk. Patent leather here, wood there with some crocodile skin and modern looking furniture thrown in as well. The $10 cover and slightly overpriced drinks are typical for clubs in the area but overall this is a really good place to see a show.
