I am thrilled to be co-producing, promoting and hosting the Hoboken Music Awards again this year. Along with indie-music scene champion Dave Entwistle, we’re staging our 2011 party at the legendary Maxwell’s (1039 Washington St, Hoboken) on November 12 at 8:30 (all ages, $8.00 and validated parking). Come early for dinner.
Plus DJ Mike C will be spinning all night
I got on board with the HMAs last year and that party was amazing. The walls of Northern Soul were heaving. I love that place and it continues to be a wonderful home for original music. However, the one criticism we got was that we needed a bigger venue.
This year, we got it.
Maxwell’s has been a haven for indie rock since 1979. It was once voted the “Best Club In New York, Even Though It’s In New Jersey” by the New Yorker Magazine and “Best Reason to Leave the State for Dinner and a Show” by the Village Voice.
So many icons have passed thru these doors. Some from our hometown. Many from all over the world. There’s no better place to celebrate the diversity of talent that exists here.
About the HMAs:
The Hoboken Music Awards were started in 2009 by Dave Entwistle. Entwistle is the long-time host of the Peoples Open Mic, a weekly showcase for local artists in town. The concept of the awards was to honor those artists and the people who help promote the music scene in and around the Hoboken area. The inaugural event, held at the now defunct Goldhawk, was a huge success. 2010′s HMAs nearly burst the walls of Northern Soul. This year’s event is happy to call Maxwell’s its home.
The nominating process has been streamlined to give more support for artists who regularly play in Hoboken. The categories are: Outstanding Male Solo, Outstanding Female Solo, Outstanding Band, Outstanding Scene Contributor, Outstanding Recording, Outstanding Video, and finally a Peoples Choice Award where the public gets to nominate artists. This is our night! A party, a celebration, a night of music, friends, peers & awards.
