Construction Worker Serenades City

Proof that music soothes the savage city, Gary Russo takes time out of each day to sing to inconvenienced neighbors in NYC.

Will the 2nd Avenue Subway project ever be completed? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain as work continues. Some NYC residents can enjoy days filled with more than noise and inconvenience. Subway construction worker Gary Russo has been taking time out of his workday to serenade passersby with a medley of Frank Sinatra classics.

It has been said that music soothes the savage beast (in this case the savage city). I know that when I’m upset or angry, I can find peace of mind in a piece of music. In a world filled with aggravations, there are certain simple things that bring solace.

It’s nice to see that Mr. Russo understands this. He performs daily near a sign that reads:

“Forget all the noise, traffic, and the impact of the 2nd Avenue Subway. Enjoy the music. Hardhats + Microphones.”

I’m hoping ‘Hardhats + Microphones’ will actually become an ongoing thing all over the city. How cool would that be? Fingers crossed.

Gary is also a member of a Meet Up group called A Cappella Singers. They invite singers to … well … meet up and sing (duh).
