I’m Hosting Gibbypalooza 2012!

Well that is I’m hosting night number two of this amazing two-night celebration of 30 years of Hoboken music

Chris ‘Gibby’ Gibson

I am truly psyched to be hosting the second of two-nights celebrating one man’s thirty-year adventure in the Hoboken and NYC music scene. The celebration? Gibbypalooza. When and where? October 6, 2012 at Beel Media Loft and October 7, 2012 at Maxwell’s. And the man? Rocker, producer, engineer Chris ‘Gibby’ Gibson.

Gibby has been a staple in the Hoboken scene since arriving here in 1982. I met him some time later in the early 1990s. He was doing sound at a show where my band at the time (Ya-Ne-Zniyoo) was performing. Over the years I’m happy to say we’ve become friends. We’ve seen a lot go down in this town. Mostly good things with the occasional setbacks and tragedies that visit any life. This weekend we’ll be celebrating all of it.

This two-night extravaganza marks the return of what had been a much-anticipated annual event up until a couple of years ago. Starting in 2001 at CBGB, a tradition of celebrating Gibby’s birthday with the music of the area and giving back to charity began. When CBGB was to close due to the ongoing gentrification of NYC, the party was moved to Hoboken.

I’ve hosted a couple of these parties in the past. Each time was quite honestly life-changing. Running myself wonderfully ragged I would find new friends, new music. And in the end I would be exhausted and inspired to continue my love of discovery. Because of that, I was beyond thrilled when Gibby asked me to do it again for this epic anniversary.

How epic are we talking? Just look at the lineups for each night:
