So, it’s been six years. Six years of rocking out and raising money for a great cause. To be honest, we weren’t sure if this year’s festivities would even take place. Our home for the previous five years — Maxwell’s — is gone. Well, at least the cool music venue part is gone. The name will live on in a new restaurant format, but I digress.
For a while — despite the closing parties and repeated announcements — the final fate of Maxwell’s was unsure at best. We all waited to see if they’d announce, “Just kidding folks. We’re staying open.” Alas, that didn’t happen. Once we were sure that they were indeed closing for good, we approached another of my favorite original-music venues in Hoboken — Northern Soul. Thankfully, they had the night available that we wanted.
Then came the task of finding bands. For whatever reason — blame it on chemtrails or global warming or Obama — we just couldn’t secure any acts. Conflicting schedules were running rampant. Then the incomparable Dave Entwistle — my partner-in-crime at the Hoboken Music Awards — came to our rescue. Within just a few days we had an amazing lineup and the frantic scrambling to promote the show began.
Now, here we go…

Global Fund for Women is an international network committed to a world of equality and social justice. Founded in 1987, this nonprofit organization defends women’s rights by making grants to support women’s groups. They promote the economic security, health, safety, education and leadership of women and girls worldwide.
