Let’s Do Art and Be Best Friends

Swan song compilation from eskimo kiss records. Some truly great bands came out of their ten-year run. Many of the best are featured here.

Kim Ware of eskimo kiss records emailed me recently to say that their next release will be their final release. In what’s become an all-too common tale in indie music, Kim had to make the hard decision to halt operations in order to concentrate on other aspects of her life. The high costs of production and pressures of the music industry no doubt played a role in her decision.

“Let’s Do Art and Be Best Friends”
Coming June 15 from eskimo kiss records

What this incredible compilation titled “Let’s Do Art and Be Best Friends” leaves us with is a history lesson of sorts. Some truly fantastic bands have been a part of eskimo kiss’s ten-year run. Many of the best are featured here including two of my faves; The Good Graces and Gregg Yeti & The Best Lights.

The quality of this collection proves to me that the impact of Kim’s dedication to indie music will be felt for many moons to come. What I got out of this music was more than just entertainment. It was friendship, inspiration, camaraderie. Things that can’t be measured in record sales.

The CD drops on June 15. However, if you’ll be in Wilmington, NC on May 30, stop by The Soapbox for a special WE Fest showcase. It will feature performances by many amazing eskimo kiss alumni.

Of course Kim could not disappear entirely from the scene. You can keep up with her musings on music at her new blog called Pretty New Songs.
