I can’t really say this is a surprise. It’s the news many of us in the Hoboken music scene had been waiting to hear. Ever since Northern Soul began showcasing live music, the murmuring of musicians who felt this venue would be the perfect new home for the Peoples Open Mic began.

Nothing against Maxwell’s—the legendary nightspot that had been the open mic’s home since the closing of The Goldhawk. Maxwell’s is, after all, one of the best places to drink, eat and see a show. However, it is set up to accommodate larger events and a more intimate setting is needed to truly showcase the close-knit, singer/songwriter community in Hoboken.

So, beginning Tuesday March 9, 2010, The Peoples Open Mic will officially move to Northern Soul (557 First St, Hoboken) and will continue there every Tuesday night at 8:00. Come on out, enjoy a great pint, great music and great people.

See ya there!

Agreed. Maxwell’s may not have been the venue, but Todd should have been given some notice. If for nothing else, for print ad, schedule card, and booking reasons.

To be honest, I have no idea how much notice was given to Todd, but I just found out yesterday.
