I hate the overuse of Auto-Tune in all forms of music. OK, as an occasional effect it’s fine, but there are some artists and producers who’ve seriously gone overboard.
It’s most popular use has been among a new generation of male R&B singers with crappy voices. The concept being that this would somehow, miraculously improve the vocal performance. Sadly however, that has rarely been the outcome.
When it’s used as a constant annoying layer over a voice, it sounds like shit as it enhances the limitations of the voice. The only good use of this technology is in the creation of masterpieces such as this from DJ Steve Porter featuring Vince and the Slap Chop.
