Website Update

I'm really trying to get back to my weekly update schedule. However I am in a constant losing battle with time. Time waits for no one … and that goes double for me. I guess that make me somebody. Anyhoo, on with the update.

J&R Computer/Music World

Village Yokocho
Kimchee, saki and many, many mysterious dishes. We managed to fit about fifteen people at a table built for ten and ordered by pointing to the tapas menu and saying,"Bring all of this."

Village Yokocho – Gallery
The glorious aftermath of a feeding frenzy. It was a deliciously fun night. Amazingly, even after seeing the mess we left, our waitress was still smiling at us as we walked out.

'Club Thing' by Yoav
Featured Song. Yoav brings together cool lyrical phrasings of folk, melodic experiments of avant-pop and production oddities of industrial dance.

Beret's Simple Cafe
A night of comfort food, music and art. A cozy place set up in multiple layers bringing extra dimensions to the space. Adding to the decor were paintings by David Ribyat and music of Las Vandelays.

Birthday Surprises
A night of fireworks, celebrations and more @ The Goldhawk. Woken up by mysterious fireworks, I was off to celebrate my friend Nelson's birthday … and save my ex-wife from a stalker. Good times, good times.

'The New Mythology' by Elf Power
Featured Song. A strong yet pliable backbeat, fluid bass lines, tonal dynamics and a knack for stacking seemingly unrelated textures in a very pleasing way

Elf Power @ Mercury Lounge – Gallery
A great set of music to start off my week. Even I find it hard to believe that I'd never been to the Mercury Lounge before tonight. I was here to see Elf Power who were in town from Athens, GA.

A Sunday Night in Queens
Beer, games, sushi, saki, go go dancers and red wine. It was an unexpected full night that started out as a simple birthday celebration and ended with me stumbling home at 4:30 AM.

Abstract Astoria – Gallery
Fun with Sunflowers, Triominos and Beer at Bohemian Hall. I wasn't allowed to play Triominos with the rest of the kids, but I had a camera and plenty of booze to keep myself preoccupied.

The Garden State Film Festival
Continuing to help fill Asbury Park's cultural void. The group's mission has been to, not only introduce great works to a new audience of viewers, but help in the revitalization of the city.

Saturday Afternoon in Asbury Park – Gallery
Spending a Spring afternoon on the beach (kinda) with my family. After watching some very cool films, I got to stroll leisurely on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, snapping pix and wondering about the city's future.

'Rise' by JD Duvall
Featured Song. A perfect showcasing of JD's fiery style as the equally passionate guitar and voice careen thru a searing, ethereal space.

Have You Ever Been Experienced?
As Clinton's veneer loses its sheen, we need to know… The question remains, what is this woman's experience that makes her the best candidate? After all this time, no one has been able to tell me.

Starfleet Officers of the Round Table
A classic retelling of the Arthurian legend (sorta). Stodgy legends and myths often need to be retold so they can be infused with new life and excitement. Such as the saga of King Arthur.

Solas
It's a big little place in the East Village. I thought this was going to be this tiny, intimate place. It turned out to have a few hidden rooms for parties and dancing.

'Basketballs & Guns' by Square Wave Punch
Featured Song. The vocal phrasing of clever words and staccato barre chords dance in a friendly maelstrom with counterpoint bass and drums.
