The historic Hoboken venue comes to our rescue

The other night at the St. Ann’s Feast here in Hoboken, I ran into Peoples Open Mic host Dave Entwistle. He told me the very good news that, after many weeks of searching, negotiating and more searching since the closing of The Goldhawk, he found a new home for the weekly event.

The longtime Tuesday mainstay will move to Mondays at historic Maxwell’s (1039 Washington St, Hoboken) starting August 10. It will run every Monday in August, then — as of right now — a somewhat sporadic schedule thru the fall. After that, the open mic will be a weekly event.

You can follow me on Twitter or check the Maxwell’s site for details.

It seems fitting for Maxwell’s to offer up itself like this. For thirty years now it has been one of the best venues around for discovering new music. Plus, the open mic tradition in Hoboken has roots here going back over a decade.

An added bonus … some of the finest comfort food in town.
