‘In Transit’ by Kanako Yamamoto
Born in Tokyo and currently based in London, Kanako Yamamoto began her musical path at a young age with a 21-string, plucked zither known as a Guzheng. Over time she would develop a passion for the guitar. Studying everything from bossa nova to jazz to Chinese traditional music to folk, she formed a very unique musical style of her own.
The sound on Kanako’s E.P. ‘In Transit’ is gentle and sweet. The songs are comforting to the listener’s heart and soul. Her voice is kind with an airy quality especially when she adds harmonies. I’m most impressed by her guitar style which effortlessly flows thru complex arpeggiated lines and lands just right. She also skillfully handles keyboard and percussive duties on the recording. The results are both compelling and soothing.
