Tang!

Live @ Maxwell’s, Hoboken

Yes having a hot chick fronting a band called Tang! is a great way to get booze guzzling guys into your bar. Hell, it got me to walk up to the stage, I’ll admit it. However this is no gimmick band.

Yes having a hot chick fronting a band called Tang! is a great way to get booze guzzling guys into your bar. Hell, it got me to walk up to the stage, I’ll admit it. However this is no gimmick band. They have the full package with an energy that is downright contagious. A fine mix of heavy funk, metal and pop that will keep those guys (and their girlfriends) partyin’ and shakin’ ass until the last beat drops.

Throughout their set I kept having to check to see if my cell phone was going off. It turned out to be the deep rumbles from the bass of Kevin Bolembach vibrating up into my legs through the floorboards. Guitarist John Bednar kept the funky riffs boucing steadily off their rock tendencies as drummer Forrest Leighton tore up the road behind them. Out in the center of it all we have Elaine Tuttle’s seriously impressive pipes and unyielding confidence.

“And now for something completely different … the larch …… the larch.”

As if I needed another reason to dig these kids, Elaine starts quoting Monty Python. After the set we traded lines from the show. We’re still planning a massive Python-a-thon at some point.

In the meantime, check out my pix:
