Veterans Benefit @ Maxwell’s

Local artists and musicians turn out to support two great veterans organizations. I really don’t care what your opinion about the war may be. You can be in favor or against the politics and rhetoric but one truth remains hard to ignore.

I really don’t care what your opinion about the war may be. You can be in favor or against the politics and rhetoric but one truth remains hard to ignore. The troops deserve every bit of support we can muster. They’re out there everyday putting their asses on the line and that takes a kind of courage that I certainly don’t have.

Tonight displayed in the restaurant portion of Maxwell’s were wonderful works of local artists, painters and photographers. All of the items were for sale. In the back room were performances by several of the areas best singers/songwriters. The cover charge was a mere $5.00 and the proceeds from that and any art sales benefited two very important groups.

‘IAVA’ (Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America) advocates real support for returning troops and their families. They fight hard against cuts in veteran benefits and demand accountability in government. ‘Homes for Our Troops’ provides handicap accessible homes for severely injured veterans. They do this at no cost to the men and women they serve.

The crowd was pretty impressive for a Monday night. Like most folks here, I wandered in and out of the two rooms, enjoying the art, music and drink. Performing in the back room tonight were Marc Gianotti (of End of October), Jon D’Angelo, David Calamoneri and Laura Thomas with Chris Farrell. All delivered their usual quality sets of music. The list of visual artists is quite extensive. Click here to see the official event flyer designed by Andrea Breitman.
