A surprise act at the ArtKore.org Open Mic
What do you get when you mix one guy from a Brazilian groove band, one guy from a heavy, hard rockin’ band and a belly dancer turned mandolin player? You get a very interesting interpretation of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Battle of Evermore’.
Lauren Barnhart took on the role of Robert Plant in addition to playing the mandolin. No, she didn’t dance this time around. Chris ‘Gibby’ Gibson of High Speed Chase handled the guitar along with a striking take on the normally female backing vocals. David Ribyat of Las Vandelays completed the trio on guitar.
The surprise I must confess was spoiled for most of us as everyone in the band had a really hard time bottling up their own excitement. Still this was an incredible sample of the talent that continues to bubble here in the cauldron of Hoboken.
