A fantastic compilation of Bowie tunes reinterpreted in unique, individual ways. Each track preserves the spirit of the originals while adding undeniable individual touches. I was taken by all of the tracks, but there were several standout tracks.
- ‘Space Oddity’ by The Grip Weeds
A modern take on a psychedelic classic with cool vocal harmonies and heavy guitars. - ‘I’m Afraid of Americans’ by The Airports 77
A sparse, syncopated version that brings the core of the song to the forefront. - ‘Modern Love’ by The High Frequencies
An interesting mix of high pitched vocals with a garage rock feel - ‘Boys Keep Swinging’ by The Anderson Council
Rightfully, this was named ‘The Coolest Song In The World’ for the week of 9/15 by Little Steven’s Underground Garage.
Honestly, this entire collection is well worth a listen. So many compilations of this type tend to feel disjointed and slapdash. Not here. There’s a discernible flow thru the record from track to track that connects them naturally while still managing to keep the individual interpretations clear. Very well done.
