Tuesday at the Goldhawk

After several carafes of vodka at the Russian Samovar, it was time to get to Hoboken for some music.

This is becoming a kind of Goldhawk tradition for me. Joy and I start out at The Russian Samovar. She was having a bad week since before Thanksgiving. Lost her wallet, had to renew everything and to make it worse … anyone born in Hudson County now has to go thru all sorts of hoops to get a new birth certificate. Due to some underhanded doings in Jersey City the county has to avoid fraud by making everyone prove they are who they say they are. Major pain. But a bigger pain was Joy’s black eye. She actually did get hit by a door. It happened while shopping. Just another reason to avoid shopping. The funniest part was the series of dirty looks being shot my way as we walked down the street.

After several carafes of vodka (Cranberry/Lemon, Plum and Peach), Joy and I jumped on the subway. In the pouring rain, and our mutual states of mind, we found ourselves on the uptown side of the E train and needed to be on the downtown side. The only way was to go back out in the rain and cross 8th avenue. For whatever reason our Metro Cards did not register this as a transfer and charged us another fair. I got off at the Port Authority to catch my bus back to Hoboken and Joy went on to Penn Station to get her train home.

I got to the Goldhawk, got myself a beer (yes I was trying to slow down a bit) and settled in. I said my hellos to my friends and listened to a few of the performers. To be honest, I don’t remember a lot of the music thanks to the lingering Russian influence from earlier. I’m not even sure who the featured act was. When the night was winding down, Lauren (Kukurudu) told me that our friend Aileen who I had not seen in many weeks was going to Maxwell’s for a drink. Greg (Butterspy … yeah I still don’t know your last name bitch) and Marc Giannotti were on their way to Louise and Jerry’s. Well by this time the rain was coming down in sheets. So, aside from wanting to see Aileen, there was no way I was trekking downtown.

Lauren and I headed out and David from Las Vandelays was to meet us in a little while. After a wet stop at the ATM, we walked into the lounge area of Maxwell’s. A small room in the front of the joint made out to be a swanky li’l meeting place. It was nice catching up with Aileen. Other than having a few drinks a month or so ago, the last time we hung out was to see Star Wars. We reminisced about how we laughed at all the inappropriate moments. David and I discussed our shared dislike of OTC and prescription drugs.

It was a pleasant, quiet way to relax until we had to duck back out into the rain. It was so relaxing that I needed to sleep in today and shun my responsibilities just a tad.

Gee, I hope Greg is not pissed at the minuscule mention in this entry. Hey! All I said is I would mention you!
