Shifty Parkers Get the Boot

Could this be a sign that complaints are being heard?

Not too long ago, the city of Hoboken implemented ‘Resident Only’ parking zones to help alleviate the stress of finding a space. The idea was to expand on the already (poorly) enforced four-hour non-resident parking limit.

In these ‘Resident Only’ zones, only those with resident stickers are permitted to park. There’s no time limit. All others would be booted, ticketed and/or towed. Brilliant! And the failsafe that was put in place insured that only Hoboken residents could obtain stickers. Or at least that was the intention.

When paying your $15 annual fee, you have to have a vehicle registration that shows your Hoboken address. Yet, in recent months, more and more cars with out-of-state plates (meaning out-of-state registrations) were adorned with resident stickers … and making it hard for me to find a spot.

I was relieved by what I saw this morning. One of the cars that has been a thorn in my side–because it has Colorado plates and always parks in front of my house–was (finally) duly booted and summonsed. I’m not one to wish bad things on anyone, but this is what you get for trying to screw the rest of us.

Now if they can get that SUV with Iowa plates and that BMW with New York plates to stop taking up valuable parking real estate, I’ll be very happy.
