The Suzan Live at Cake Shop

Cute Japanese girl-band put on a special low-key show for Nylon Magazine in the back room of Cake Shop in NYC

So, for the second time this month, I was drawn to watch a video strictly due to the cute factor. This time, it’s a band from Japan called The Suzan. Their music is catchy and (at times) downright adorable, which you may of course expect from a Japanese all-girl band. What you don’t expect is that they’re a sorta anti-pop phenomenon.

Despite their cuteness (or maybe because of it), they have a way of taking the bubblegum norm and turning it upside down. Mixing garage pop, old-school new wave and electronic dance, their sound will stick with you without giving you diabetes.

That is captured in a low-key live video of their song ‘Ha Ha Ha’ recorded in the backroom of Cake Shop in NYC. It was recorded for Nylon Magazine. I’m not sure what the show was for. Their website doesn’t say much about it.

Now, you think that was cute? Well, check out the girls as they romp around NYC as giddy tourists. I often forget just how incredible this city is to people who don’t live here.
