This is a bit off topic for me but very important nonetheless. Because it’s coming from the party that was supposedly against so-called cancel culture yet are now trying to silence all political dissention.
Here’s what happened with Colbert.
CBS has refused to air a segment of The Late Show featuring James Talarico following pressure from the FCC. Talarico is a popular Texas Senate candidate and an outspoken critic of the Trump administration and Christian Nationalism. Basically, the FCC is citing the Equal Time Provision which requires broadcast radio and television programs to devote equal time to all candidates in a particular race. News and talk shows have long been exempt from this provision. However, in an effort to rein in outlets that criticize the president, FCC chair Brendan Carr has moved to lift that exemption.
After he was told he could not even make mention of the interview, Colbert blasted Carr, the FCC, and CBS for this latest blatantly partisan action. Thankfully, CBS’s self-initiated blackout of the segment does not extend to YouTube and the interview is available there. I can only assume that the interview will be seen by far more people now because of the controversy. At the time of writing this — just over twelve hours since the interview was posted — the video has over 1.2 million views.
And no matter how small my contribution may be, I feel it’s my civic duty to help spread the word as best as I can.
Please share the video and help spread the word.
Cheers!
Stephen
