It is a well known fact that I don’t normally endorse tribute songs, but what we have here is something very, very different. It’s an ingenious acoustic mash up of The Beatles and Led Zeppelin performed by a very inventive musician. Vincent DeMasi (aka Fen) plays guitar in the band Lloyd United and ‘Rigby’s Last Stand’ appears on his solo CD called ‘Sketches For Sofia’.

Combining the epic majesty of ‘Achilles Last Stand’ with the delicate dance of ‘Eleanor Rigby’, DeMasi gives us a unique view of what can be done with music if you just open your mind. I’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with him, talking music and (on one occasion) singing along with another classic, Pink Floyd’s ‘Astronomy Domine’ in the wee hours of the night at the local bar.

‘Sketches For Sofia’ contains nine other original compositions presented in simply beautiful pieces of guitar music. DeMasi’s fingerstyle of playing is influenced by Celtic, classical, blues and more without losing it’s own style or identity. This is truly a fine listen for that relaxing moment when you just want to strip away the pressures of the world around you.
