Harmonies spiral through contagious melodies
On a typical night in Hoboken, checking out the new bands, I caught a couple of tunes by Nectar. Later that night on my way home, I found myself humming their melodies. Always a good sign.
The next time I saw them, I chatted with them over some cocktails about girls, music, girls, recording, booze and girls. It was cool to discover that our points of view were quite similar.
Usually getting chummy with a band before reviewing them is a no-no for me since it could taint my opinion. But these guys are a lovable couple of fuckers.
Well, I made it a point to get the CD and listen as objectively as possible. I’m happy to announce that it kicks in strong and remains strong.
Theirs is an impeccable sense of songwriting with balls. Harmonies spiral through contagious melodies. All of it tossed into the garage with the grease stains, garden tools and rusted toolboxes.
