Only the slightest hint of daring for me tonight
It was my turn to pick out the eatery for my regular dinner date with Adriane. She and I have agreed to help each other discover new places in Hoboken by becoming food buddies. She needs it because she’s new in town. I need it because I’m lazy and simply won’t venture out by myself.
It started with our Sushi night a couple of weeks ago and the thought that all of our trips would be somewhat adventurous. But tonight I was in the mood for some good old comfort food. I had heard decent things about Buskers (94-98 Bloomfield St, Hoboken) and thought we’d give it a try. The only bit of daring for me came with the appetizer. Steamed Mussels.
Again, most of you will think that such a thing is not daring at all. Remember though, my idea of seafood up to very recently was tuna salad, so cut me some slack. I’m happy to say that I really enjoyed them with their simple seasoning and butter. Still my entrée needed to be a soft bed of warm, soothing comfort. It was, after all, what I was craving.

I ordered the Stuffed Chicken Breast (Spinach, Roasted Tomato, Feta Cheese, Mashed Potato, Brandy Sauce). Although the chicken was a bit dry, the rest of my plate was a sleep-inducing concoction of cheesy, potatoey, buttery goodness. Adriane also went the comfort route as well with a special Tilapia stuffed with crab and other goodies I can’t remember.
Buskers seems like a fun place for after work drinks too. It feels very laid back with an interesting Irish pub meets hunting lodge decor and there’s a violin in the floor. I mean it. Two disappointments for me were that they have signs for Murphy’s Stout but don’t serve it and the Guinness was poured fast and served a bit flat.
This may have just been an off-night thing so I’ll have to try it again to be sure. I’m still recommending this place for a quiet dinner or a night of drinking. Plus they offer a free limo shuttle service on the weekends. You can’t beat that.
