Soda Pop Shop

I’m always thrilled to learn of new places to see live music

Not only is the Soda Pop Shop new to me because I have never been here before, it is just an odd combination for this day and age. We’ve all seen Happy Days with Potsie singing at Arnold’s. Now picture that with much cooler music.

Not only is the Soda Pop Shop (558 Bloomfield Ave Montclair, NJ) new to me because I have never been here before, it is just an odd combination for this day and age. We’ve all seen Happy Days with Potsie singing at Arnold’s. Now picture that with much cooler music.

Yes, the place is … well … an ice cream parlor. You know; soda pop, shakes, floats, sundaes and so on. In a small room in the back, there is live music. A cheerful space with bright lights, Formica tables and 45s tacked to the wall behind the stage area.

Performing on this night was The Lost Patrol. Their smooth and twangy space surf with classy vocals sounded very nice through the tiny PA.

So, if you’re looking for live entertainment in a setting other than that of stale flat beer, indifferent patrons and throat choking smoke, come to Montclair and visit the kind folks at the Soda Pop Shop. Oh, and while you’re there, order “The Cookie Monster Meets The Dough Boy” … trust me on this.
